PROTECTING WHAT MATTERS —
Sustainability
Silver Fleece embeds sustainability at the centre of its operations, manufacturing garments entirely on-site at our facility in Bowden, South Australia.
Our facility has been designed for efficient, low-impact production, with the latest in technology and equipment, layout and systems that reduce energy use, support local supply chains, and minimise material handling. Local manufacturing removes the environmental burden of offshore freight and ensures complete control over sourcing, waste reduction and quality.
We operate advanced Shima Seiki machinery, including a revolutionary new 3D knitting machine that produces seamless garments with close to zero waste. This technology enables on-demand production, eliminates offcuts, and reduces the need for multiple handling stages. By manufacturing only what is needed and avoiding traditional cut-and-sew waste, Silver Fleece supports a circular economy model that prioritises material efficiency and waste prevention from the outset.
Our factory incorporates energy-efficient infrastructure, optimised waste separation, and streamlined production flows that reduce unnecessary movement, storage and packaging. Materials are used conservatively, products are made to last, and waste is minimised through thoughtful design and process management. Garments are designed with longevity in mind, extending their life cycle and reducing the environmental impact of short-use or disposable clothing.
-
ETHICALLY SOURCED
Silver Fleece uses Australian wool and ethically sourced yarns, sourced from suppliers who uphold high environmental and ethical standards. All fibres used to produce textiles and garments are renewable, biodegradable and processed through a traceable supply chain. Local sourcing reduces emissions linked to transport and supports regenerative agricultural practices that align with broader sustainability goals.
-
CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Sustainability at Silver Fleece is grounded in the principles of a circular economy: designing out waste, keeping materials in use for longer, and regenerating natural systems. Every decision, from fibre selection to product delivery, is shaped by a commitment to responsible manufacturing and long-term environmental stewardship.
-
OPTIMISED MANUFACTURING
Silver Fleece combines advanced technology with decades of garment manufacturing expertise to deliver precision, efficiency and quality at scale. Our upgraded facility includes high-performance WholeGarment knitting machines, digital patterning, and streamlined processes that minimise waste and maximise productivity. We’ve refined every step of production, from yarn to finished garment, to create a smarter, faster and more sustainable manufacturing environment. This investment in modern equipment and workflow optimisation allows us to produce premium garments with reduced lead times, consistent quality, and significantly lower material waste.
-
BETTER COTTON
We source cotton with a strong commitment to environmental, social, economic and ethical standards. This means working with suppliers who prioritise sustainable farming practices, fair treatment of workers, and transparent supply chains. We have a zero tolerance approach to unethical conduct and choose to work only with partners who align with our values. Responsible cotton sourcing is not a marketing choice, it is a fundamental part of how we operate.
-
POWERED BY RENEWABLES
The manufacturing sector is a major consumer of electricity, and reducing its environmental footprint is essential. Silver Fleece has invested in solar energy to power our operations with a cleaner, more sustainable source. By shifting to renewables, we are cutting emissions, lowering energy costs, and building greater resilience into our business. We have also adopted a holistic lean manufacturing approach, streamlining processes to reduce waste, improve efficiency and deliver greater value across every stage of production.
-
INNOVATIONS
Driving sustainable progress means constantly exploring new ways to improve how we design and manufacture garments. At Silver Fleece, we are committed to testing and adopting innovative production methods, materials and technologies that reduce environmental impact and support long-term sustainability. This includes low-waste knitting techniques, advanced digital workflows, and smarter sourcing strategies that align with our values.
-
WASTE MANAGEMENT
Our focus on continuous improvement extends to monitoring our carbon emissions and embedding circular economy principles into our operations. This includes initiatives like off-cut recycling, garment take-back programs, and designing for durability and reuse. We are committed to doing things better every day, not only through technology and infrastructure but through thoughtful decisions that reflect our responsibility to people and the planet.
-
ADVANCED TEXTILES
We recognise that many textile fibre innovations are still developing, but we are actively watching, trialling and learning from the latest research and market trends. Progress takes time, but momentum is building across the industry as brands, partners and consumers demand better solutions. Our role is to stay informed, stay curious and remain ready to act when those opportunities become viable.
