What does stenting (using a stenter) do?
Share
For quality assurance and textile/product care a stenter is a machine used in textile finishing to:
- Set the fabric width to the desired measurement
- Control shrinkage and stabilise dimensions
- Cure coatings, prints, or finishes applied to the fabric
- Improve handle (feel) and appearance
- Straighten and align the fabric grain
- Dry the fabric evenly under tension
Using a stenter ensures:
- The fabric won’t shrink or twist unexpectedly after washing.
- The fabric maintains consistent width for cutting and sewing.
- The quality, drape, and structure of your garments are preserved during wear and laundering.
