Silver Fleece is a proudly Australian, heritage knitwear manufacturer (est. 1951) entering an exciting phase of growth. Based in Bowden, just minutes from the Adelaide CBD, we specialise in premium knitwear and advanced textile manufacturing across fashion, technical, and performance categories.

We are seeking an experienced Shima Seiki Knitwear Programmer to lead our flatbed and WHOLEGARMENT operations — someone who can bridge design, programming, and production at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Programming & Design (Shima Seiki SDS-ONE / APEX 4)

• Lead all flatbed and WHOLEGARMENT programming
• Translate design concepts into production-ready knit programs
• Build and manage a programming library for efficiency and repeatability

Sampling, Development & Production

• Lead sampling, grading, and development processes
• Work closely with Sales, design, and production on development and bulk production
• Ensure all developments are commercially viable and production-ready
• Support machine upgrades and yarn sourcing to optimise quality

Production & Quality

• Oversee machine allocation and production efficiency
• Maintain high-quality standards and reduce faults
• Implement and manage SOPs across knitting operations

Technical Leadership & Maintenance

• Troubleshoot and maintain Shima Seiki machines
• Liaise with Shima Seiki consultants on advanced technical issues
• Train and upskill operators to build internal capability

Team Development & Training

• Mentor and develop team capability in machine operation and mechanics
• Support team in APEX 4 training pathways
• Implement structured development plans for programming capability

Your Value to Silver Fleece

• Proven experience across design, programming, and production
• Advanced expertise across Shima Seiki machines (WHOLEGARMENT, SSG, SIG, SES)
• Strong ability to bridge R&D, design, and manufacturing
• Experience managing large-scale operations
• Japan-trained Shima Seiki (preferred) in programming and production optimisation
